Professional Experience
Kern is the co-director and co-founder of the Oxford Bank Governance programme at the University of Oxford Said Business School (2021-present). In this capacity, he teaches bank board members the principles of bank board governance and regulation, and he chairs panels from leading experts in banking sector on the latest developments in bank governance and strategy. https://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/about-us/people/kern-alexander
Previously, Kern was the academic course director (2014-2023) for the face to face and online variants of the Certificate course Understanding the Regulatory Environment for the Barclays Compliance Academy at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. He delivered full day and half day sessions concerning various topics on the principles and standards of international banking regulation and their relevance for bank compliance, governance and strategy. This course is run in partnership with Barclays Bank. He also taught the Principles of Financial Regulation course at the Judge Business School for the Master of Finance and MBA programme. In this capacity, Kern consistently received student evaluations for his teaching and the course content.
Kern also delivered 3 full-day sessions per year on the legal and regulatory aspects of financial regulation and supervision and marks the examination papers for the Bank of England’s Master of Science in Finance and Economics Course run in conjunction with the University of Warwick Business School (2018-2022).
At the University of Zurich, Kern teaches a full-day session on international financial regulation and sustainability as part of the Certificate in Sustainable Finance course run by the University of Zurich Center for Sustainable Finance.
